Form guide
Ordinarily, this fixture would have a seismic impact on the Barclays Premier League title race; however, the tremors felt after Sunday’s meeting are likely to be minimal. Chelsea, in their first season under new manager Andre Villas-Boas, are lagging in fourth place and enduring a torrid run of form, winning just four of the last 10 matches. However, the Blues can be encouraged by a strong record against United at Stamford Bridge, having only lost once in 10 previous league encounters in West London. Sir Alex Ferguson’s last domestic victory at the Bridge was during the 2001/02 campaign when goals from Ruud van Nistelrooy, Paul Scholes and Ole Solskjaer secured a memorable 3-0 win. Since then, the Reds have struggled – aside from last season’s Champions League quarter final triumph. Recent away victories at Arsenal in the league and Manchester City in the FA Cup are promising, though, and three points on Sunday would be greatly welcomed.
